Problem Statement

Clinical communication tasks require reading messages and routing information accurately and promptly, and handling them manually consumes clinical staff time and can slow the response a patient or provider is waiting on. For outpatient Ask-a-Doc questions, each message arrives in an Outlook inbox and has to be recreated as an Epic InBasket message to the requested provider, with urgency flagged when a fast response is required. Copying each one over by hand is repetitive, and a delay leaves a clinical question waiting.

Automation Solution

This automation converts each outpatient Ask-a-Doc Outlook email into an Epic InBasket message to the requested provider and flags it high priority when the request must be answered within one business day.
